The Department of Electrical Engineering seeks applicants for a permanent, half time position as senior research scientist in hyperpolarized magnetic resonance at the new Center of Excellence (CoE) in Hyperpolarized Magnetic Resonance. The Center for Hyperpolarized Magnetic Resonance (http://www.hypermag.elektro.dtu.dk ) is funded by the Danish National Research Foundation with the mission of addressing basic scientific questions of hyperpolarization by Dynamic Nuclear Polarization (DNP) to enable new applications of Magnetic Resonance in the study of chemical reactions in real-time in vivo and in vitro. The CoE has high resolution NMR systems, several polarizers, a cell lab, chemistry lab and electronics labs. We are 20-25 researchers and support staff. Responsibilities and tasks To advance the research of the CoE on hyperpolarization in collaboration with colleagues and external collaborators. Specifically, develop new research ideas related to the physical chemistry of hyperpolarization of substrates for cellular and enzymatic applications of hyperpolarized magnetic resonance. Hyperpolarization is a complex method that requires interdisciplinary skills, and the successful candidate will enter into a team and contribute to the common goals of the center. The successful candidate will conduct research on fundamental questions related to hyperpolarization of substrates for the study of chemical and biochemical reactions. Our research aims to understand the basic science; and to answer these questions, it will be required to - Study and understand the physics of hyperpolarization by dissolution Dynamic Nuclear Polarization - Address technological and methodological problems related to hyperpolarization of substrates, specifically NMR method development to characterize Dynamic Nuclear Polarization in the solid state as well as hyperpolarized signals in the liquid state - Study chemical formulations for Dynamic Nuclear Polarization, hereunder, the synthesis of substrates and paramagnetic molecules and the formulation of these The applicant may take part in research-based teaching. The candidate is expected to contribute to developing the research portfolio and funding within the above area. Idea generation, fund raising, research impact and innovation are key performance indicators for the position. Dissemination to the public and exchange of knowledge with society, including participation in the public debate is important. Guidance and supervision of postdocs and PhD students are expected. Contributing to the development of a good work atmosphere and a thriving environment is essential. Qualifications Candidates must - hold a PhD (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc. - have a background in biology, biochemistry, medicine or similar. - have extensive research experience and publication record within the field of hyperpolarization with dissolution-DNP - have a broad general knowledge of NMR and fundamental understanding of the application of NMR to biological systems Assessment In the assessment of the candidates, consideration will be given to - scientific production and research potential at international level - innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas - the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities - experience in teaching and education - the ability to promote and utilize research results - an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience - the ability to contribute to development of the CoE by establishing collaborations and raising funding.
