Section of Immunology and Vaccinology at the National Veterinary Institute, DTU (DTU Vet), performs research within basic and applied immunology for the benefit of animals and humans. Our research and development spans from identifying new cellular subsets and their function in the immune over development of immune based technologies for use in diagnostic platforms to the development and testing of vaccines. The research scientist will be attached to the Section for Immunology and Vaccinology, one of the five Sections comprising the Department, employing 220 persons. Responsibilities and tasks A position as a research scientist is available in the Mucosal Immunology group headed by Professor William Agace at the Section of Immunology and Vaccinology, at the Danish Technical University, National Veterinary Institute, Frederiksberg. The research group focuses on understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating immune homeostasis, infection and inflammation in the intestinal tract with a particular interest in the impact of dendritic cells and stromal elements in the regulation of adaptive immunity (see Nat Rev Immunol. 2014 Oct;14(10):667-85, Immunity. 2013 May 23;38(5):958-69). The successful candidate will help to run a team of collaborative groups with expertise in state-of-the-art animal models, proteomics, systems biology and clinical gastroenterology to assess the mechanisms regulating regionalized immunity along the length of the intestinal tract. The candidate will have three main roles within the group. Firstly he/she will provide key methodological and intellectual expertise in lymphoid and extra-lymphoid stromal cell analysis to support ongoing PhD and postdoctoral projects in the laboratory. Secondly the candidate will support the Mucosal Immunology group in the day to day running and future directions, including organization of technical personnel and scientific sub-groups. Thirdly, the candidate will establish in vivo model systems to assess the ontogeny and function of stromal cell subsets. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. The candidate should be a highly motivated team player that has experience in the practical training of PhD students and a documented ability to take on and run their own projects. The successful candidate will have a PhD in immunology, with considerable prior experience in working with primary stromal cell subsets in both primary and secondary lymphoid (for example thymus and lymph node) as well as peripheral (for example intestine) tissues. Key techniques necessary for the position include competence in multi-color flow cytometry (12-14 color), the ability to set up and transplant re-aggregation thymic organ culture (RTOC) and re-aggregation lymphoid organ culture (RLOC), extensive experience in the isolation and characterization of primary embryonic and adult stromal subsets, experience in confocal microscopy and basic knowledge in bioinformatics. It is important to enhance the objective and technical/academic qualifications of the position.
