This position offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative multi-disciplinary team engaged in translational stem cell research. Our efforts are focused on understanding the mechanisms involved in the genesis or progression of several neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders (Huntington’s disease, schizophrenia, ALS-FTD and leukodystrophies). In particular, we are interested in defining the differences in the dynamic regulation of genes and signaling pathways between normal and diseased hESC derived glial precursor cells as a way to identify novel therapeutic targets and develop alternative strategies for treatment of human neurodegenerative diseases.

Task and responsibilities
The applicant will be involved in a research project related to investigating the role of glial pathology in the genesis of neurodegenerative disease ALS-FTD (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia) using patient iPSCs-derived glial progenitors and human glial-chimeric mouse model.

Qualifications
The successful candidate should have:
  • A PhD in relevant scientific area (Neuroscience, Developmental neurobiology)
  • Experience in cell culture and functional stem cells culture assays
  • Tissue processing and analysis (tissue embedding, sectioning, histology, immunostaining, microscopy)
  • Courses and certificates in Laboratory Animal Science as well as expertise with in vivo models (injections, sample collection) and handling research animals will be considered as an advantage
  • Demonstrated capacity for effective team work
  • Fluency in English and excellent communication skills
Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
