The Cosmic Dawn Center (DAWN) at DTU-Space and the Niels Bohr Institute in Copenhagen opens a postdoc position in observational cosmology, to work with the High - z Universe Working Group of the JWST/MIRI GTO team. The successful candidate will be employed at DTU-Space as part of the Division of Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics at the Technical University of Denmark. DTU Space is involved in JWST, both in providing hard ware for the mission and in setting up the High - z Universe part of the MIRI GTO program. This program contains a MIRI Deep Imaging Survey and spectroscopy of selected high redshift galaxies within the Epoch of Reionization. Deep NIRCam imaging will cover the MIRI imaging observations. In parallel to the MIRI Deep Imaging Survey, deep NIRCam imaging and NIRISS slitless observations will be collected.

Responsibilities and tasks
The successful candidate is expected to

• Provide substantial support to the preparation of the reduction and the scientific analysis of the data from the MIRI High – z Universe GTO program, mainly from the imaging part
• Formulate and execute observational programs on the large observation facilities e.g. VLT, ALMA, HST, relevant for the interpretation of the MIRI/NIRCam observations
• Participate in both national and international activities associated with the Cosmic Dawn Center of Excellence
• Attract external funding

Cosmic Dawn is a new international basic research center supported by the Danish National Research Foundation, dedicated to uncovering how and when the first galaxies, stars and black holes formed. Dawn is located at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen and at the National Space Institute of the Danish Technical University (DTU Space), and collaborates closely with associate institutions in North America, Europe and Australia. DTU Space has been involved in the James Webb Space Telescope since 2003, mainly in the development of the Mid InfraRed Instrument MIRI and in the preparation of the MIRI Guaranteed Time Observations within the MIRI High – z Universe Working Group

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent)
• The applicant must demonstrate a solid background in observational cosmology
• The applicant must demonstrate experience in reducing and analyzing near/mid infrared imaging observations

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
