The National Research Centre of the Working Environment in Copenhagen invites applications for a 2-year postdoc position offering an exciting opportunity to join our research projects on occupational exposure to fungi and bacteria and their transmission.

At the Danish National Research Centre for the Working Environment, we research important topics of today’s – and tomorrow’s – working environment and work-related health and safety. As a public sector research institution under the Danish Ministry of Employment, it is our job to monitor and evaluate trends in our working environment and draw attention to new risks. Contribute to the research occupational exposure to microorganisms
The postdoctoral position is part of our microbiology group and you are planned to work on two different projects. The aims of the projects are to risk evaluate microbial exposures and to get knowledge on potential transmission routes in waste sorting plants and nursery homes. You will use methods already implemented in the group for quantification and identification of fungi and bacteria using MALDI-TOF MS and implement and apply assays for testing of resistance to antimicrobial compounds. You will be responsible for analysing aerosol samples which are already collected in a well-designed study. This includes laboratory analysis, data treatment as well as scientific publication. In another project you will be responsible for workplace contact, aerosol sampling and analysis, and you will contribute to the scientific publication.

As part of the microbiology research group, we expect you also to contribute to the overall activities, strategies, and development of the group.

The Microbiology group at NFA is well established with good microbiology laboratory and field measurements facilities and equipment. The group works with research on occupational exposure to microorganisms and potential associated health effects.

Be our new colleague
Candidates should have a PhD degree in microbiology.

We expect that you have a solid background in:

• microbiology
• life science
• methods for quantification and identification of microorganisms
• data treatment
• publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

It will be an advantage if you have experience with organising and conducting fieldwork, and with developing and writing project proposals. As field measurements are a part of the job, you can expect days with extended working hours.

Salary and employment terms
The period of employment is 2 years. It is a full-time post. Anticipated starting date is August 1st.

Employment will be as postdoc according to the collective agreement for academic staff between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC), and according to the position structure for scientific staff employed at government research institutions.
