A 3-year postdoc position is available at the Center for Fast Ultrasound Imaging (CFU) at the Department of Electrical Engineering from December 2018. The project is co-funded by the Innovation Foundation project on Super Resolution Ultrasound Imaging. The project is carried out in collaboration between CFU at DTU Elektro, DTU Nanotech, BK Medical, the University of Copenhagen, and the Copenhagen University Hospital (Rigshospitalet).

CFU develops new advanced ultrasound imaging methods encompassing algorithms, their simulation, development of research scanners, implementations, and clinical validation. Since CFU was established in 1998, it has educated more than 40 PhDs in advanced ultrasound imaging and has extensive laboratory facilities for ultrasound research. CFU has been a pioneer in developing ultrasound vector flow imaging, synthetic aperture imaging, ultrasound simulation (Field II), and advanced research scanners (RASMUS/SARUS).

The purpose of the project is to develop methods for ultrasound super resolution imaging, which can attain a resolution in the micrometre range and hereby visualize the smallest vessels in the body and their blood flow. The project seeks to accomplish this in three-dimensional scans using row-column arrays and ultrasound contrast agents. The postdoc position addresses the image processing part of the project and collaborates with the other team members on the ultrasound imaging, experimentation, and translation to pre-clinical use.

Responsibilities and tasks 
You will be responsible for the super resolution processing pipeline developed at CFU during the project. This includes the full image processing from individual measured transducer signals to the final visualized 3-D volume of perfusion data and the quantification of this. 

• Your responsibility will be to develop the processing pipeline and make it usable for all partners in the project
• You will contribute to write algorithms for ultrasound beamforming, segmentation, tracking of bubbles, and the final 3-D visualization
• Your research will include developing the algorithms, parallelizing and optimizing them for running on our 3000 core CPU cluster and our newest GPU cluster based on Nvidia Volta chips.
• You will engage in writing code in Matlab with parts based on Googles Tensor Flow library and possible on OpenCL
• You will also participate in laboratory experiments on phantom objects, simulation of ultrasound signals, and on the final pre-clinical test of the developed methods

The research is conducted in a truly multi-disciplinary environment. The special focus is on making methods usable in the clinic and translating them to commercial implementations for the benefit of patient diagnosis and care.

Qualifications 
Candidates should hold a PhD or equivalent, and with a strong background in ultrasound imaging signal processing and image processing. You will be actively involved in the daily work at CFU participating in both the research and guiding PhD and MSc students in their projects. You are driven by:

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is from 1 December 2018 to 30 November 2021.
