A postdoc position (19 months) in Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers is available in the MEMS-Applied Sensors group. The group is focused on developing miniature ultrasonic transducers for use in medical imaging. The group works on all aspects of transducer design, fabrication and characterization and with development of ultrasound probes.
Recent years has seen the development of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers (CMUTs) based on silicon technology. Realizing such transducers requires array and process design and to enable medical imaging the transducers are assembled into ultrasound probes. The research field is highly interdisciplinary combining nano fabrication, acoustics, electronics and physics based analysis.
Responsibilities and tasks
The research in this project is focused on CMUT transducers for medical imaging. Your responsibility will be to design and fabricate CMUT transducers for ultrasound medical imaging using tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, Mathematica and PZFlex. You will also be responsible for development of ultrasound probes for medical imaging. This task is aimed at encapsulating the developed CMUTs into a fully functional ultrasound probe that can be directly coupled to a ultrasound scanner. Being in a research environment you will of course contribute to our ongoing research and to supervision of students.
Qualifications
The be a successful candidate for this project you should have a PhD degree in physics or nanotechnology and have extensive experience in working with cleanroom technologies (including thin film deposition, pattern generation, etching and material analysis) for fabrication of capacitive micromachined ultrasonic transducers. It will be an advantage if you have experience in design, fabrication and test of ultrasound probes as this is one of the tasks in this project.
Furthermore, you should have experience in lumped element modelling, and programming skills in tools like Matlab, Mathematica, PZFlex and COMSOL.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. The period of employment is 19 months.
