DTU Management Engineering invites applicants for a 2-year position as Post-Doc in Engineering Systems and Project Manager at DTU for the H2020 EURITO project on Research and Innovation Indicators. The applicant should start ideally in December 2018 or as close as possible thereafter. The position will be based in the Engineering Systems Division led by Professor Anja Maier.

The Engineering Systems Division is growing fast and is characterised by a vibrant and supportive research environment with engaged staff and strong research collaborations with leading universities and industry worldwide. Our research focuses on understanding and improving the ways in which engineering systems are designed, managed, and operated throughout their life cycles. Our research spans the boundaries of 1. interdisciplinary engineering design, 2. engineering project, programme and portfolio management, and 3. related policy, public engagement and strategic processes.

The Post-Doc will be expected to conduct research and to be the connector and project manager for the DTU part of the EURITO project, a three-year (2018-2020) European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Action, with Nesta (UK) as project consortium co-ordinator and with DTU (Denmark), FOKUS Fraunhofer (Germany), and Cotec (Spain) as project partners.

EURITO´s overall objective is to enhance the design of research and innovation policies (R&I) in Europe. This is to be achieved by developing a new set of system-level indicators for innovation and research activities, as well as analytics and visualisations based on open data sources and novel methods. Examples of mined data sources include publications, patents, industry registries, company websites, data traces within social networking and community websites (e.g. Meetup.com and Twitter). Examples of analysis methods include network and content analysis, interactive data visualisation dashboards, or immersive analytics. Within the consortium, DTU work package leads on tasks connected to data collection and analysis, with a particular focus on analytics and information visualisation.

You will have the opportunity to develop and conduct your research within engineering systems design. The H2020 project is situated within (data-driven and visual) systems design, research and innovation indicators, and policy-making.

Responsibilities and tasks: Your role will be

• to develop and conduct research within engineering systems design,
• to disseminate research results in both scientific and practitioner-oriented channels,
• technical and organisational project management in liaison with DTU's EURITO partners and coordination of DTU's role in EURITO,
• to work with DTU's EURITO project team members, including the PI and two PhD students and their respective projects on designing- and using systems visualisations for decision support,
• to ensure DTU's input to successful delivery of all EURITO work packages and especially leading WP3 'Data collection and analysis',
• integrating and scaling up the results of the first pilots with the consortium partners across Europe, for potential new R&I indicators advancing either new data sources and/or new analysis and visualisation methods (see also: http://www.eurito.eu/pilots-and-indicators/),
• to prepare technical and administrative reports and deliverables, including preparation and active attendance of monthly consortium calls,
• financial, administrative and legal management of DTU's part in conjunction with administrative contact people at DTU and other project partners,
• overall, to ensure DTU's contribution to the project is carried out in line with the work plan and budget, in compliance with European Commission rules and regulations.

Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree preferably in Engineering Systems, Systems Design, Design & Innovation, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or a similar doctoral-level degree.

In addition to the above, the following further qualifications will be considered in the assessment:

• Proven ability and passion for research dissemination, science communication
• Strong interest in complex sociotechnical systems and engineering design
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment as well as in a Danish context
• Experience managing research projects

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is for 2 years, with the start as soon as possible and latest early 2019.

The position will be based in the Engineering Systems Division at DTU Management Engineering in Lyngby, just outside Copenhagen, Denmark.
