DTU Nanotech would like to invite applications for a 3-year PhD position in Mucosal Immunology.

The scientific focus of the laboratory lies on the recognition of viruses at mucosal surfaces with an emphasis on the role of dendritic cell subsets. With this announced position, we intend to strengthen our efforts in understanding dendritic cell subset specification at the transcriptional level. We are well embedded into the immunology section, where there are multiple young research groups working closely together to create a motivating environment.

Responsibilities and tasks

We are seeking a PhD student to join our studies on the role of transcription factors in mucosal dendritic cell subset differentiation and function. Dendritic cells are professional antigen presenting cells crucial for directing immune homeostasis and inflammation. Different subsets of dendritic cells orchestrate different types of immunity, which has a strong impact on pathogenicity and clearance of viruses. The goal of our studies is to better understand dendritic cell subset development and function by deciphering the transcription factor network driving differential gene expression. The project will consist of the following components:

• Gene expression analysis using RNA-Seq
• Phenotypic characterization using FACS
• Epigenetic analysis using ATAC-Seq
• Gene-expression manipulation using retro- and lentiviral systems
• Viral infections of mice and associated readouts using respiratory syncytial virus and rotavirus

The successful candidate must have:

• Expertise in managing transgenic mouse colonies and in handling laboratory mice
• Expertise in multi-color flow cytometry
• Expertise in growing intestinal organoids in vitro
• Expertise in using FlowJo and GraphPad Prism
• A FELASA B certificate or equivalent

Qualifications

Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree.

Salary and appointment terms

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union. The period of employment is 3 years.
