SDU Robotics, part of the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark, located in Odense, invites applications for positions as Assistant Professor, alternatively as Post Doc, which will be vacant from January, 1 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The candidate will be integrated in the SDU-Robotics Section specialized in robot solutions involving sensorial processing, mathematical modeling, learning and simulation targeted at advanced robot systems, for industrial but also other application domains. The group is involved in a variety of national and European projects. The aim of the group is to solve challenging research problems from real applications and to participate in implementing the achieved results into real solutions with end users. We are looking for candidates to extend our research activities in Robotics with a focus on industrial applications. More specifically, we seek candidates that can contribute to facilitating the process of the design and implementation of highly flexible robotic solutions for industry involving the combination of advanced mechanical design and advanced robot programs based on e.g. mathematical models, simulation and learning. 

The candidate is expected to have most of the following qualifications:

• Documented practical experience with advanced applications involving robotic manipulators  
• Documented knowledge in a broad scope of the robotics domain
• Good machine learning competences
• Strong programming skills (C++, Matlab)

The candidate will be part of the SDU-Robotics section and is expected to participate in activities of the section including current and future research projects. This involves for example:

• To be able to collaborate with our experts in the further development of our core technologies
• To participate in the practicalities of actual industrial applications
• To be deeply involved in our regular coordination and joint evolvement of research and project activities

The candidate will be involved in teaching courses on our BSc and MSc Program in Robot Systems Engineering enrolling approximately 140 students per year and to supervise BSc, MSc and PhD theses.

Requirements for the position
Employment as an assistant professor or postdoc requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.

Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee may request additional information, and if so, it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide the necessary material. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the Faculty.

Shortlisting may be used. Shortlisted applicants will be assessed by an assessment panel.

As part of the overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, the applicant may be called for interview.

Conditions of employment
Employment as assistant professor or postdoc is a temporary position. The employment will cease without further notice at the end of the period.The successful applicant will be employed in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
