Department of Computer Science (DIKU) is seeking candidates for a professorship in Large-Scale Data Management Systems. The new professor is expected to make a significant contribution to leadership in Data Management Systems within the Department of Computer Science. The professor must ensure that data management system research, teaching, and outreach activities are thriving, and act as a mentor to young researchers.

Outstanding applicants in the areas of Large-Scale Data Management Systems will be considered, but research areas of special interest include:

• Distributed database systems
• Distributed and parallel data processing
• Scalable Data stream processing
• Large-scale graph data management

We are looking for an experienced researcher with an innovative mindset and intellectual curiosity to strengthen the research profile of the department's Software, Data, People and Society Section (SDPS). The section research in software, process and data management systems, and methods for the development of software systems suited for the people developing and using them, thereby creating value for society. The research is often carried out in an interdisciplinary context and in collaboration with industry. The successful candidate is expected to be capable of and must be interested in facilitating cross-faculty collaborations both within the Computer Science Department and across the University, as well as cross-sector interactions with industry.

The hiring of a new full professor is a part of the Department’s efforts to strengthen our research and teaching in Data Management Systems. The professor will be expected to secure competitive external funding and build an internationally recognized research group in data management systems.

Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.




Selection Criteria

• A research doctorate or equivalent in Data Management Systems or other relevant field.
• A demonstrated relevant world-class track record of high quality research and scholarship as evidenced by publications in high-quality journals and conferences. Outstanding applicants in all areas of Large-Scale Data Management Systems will be considered.
• A track record of supervision of young researchers, such as PhD students and postdocs, organization of workshops and conferences and involvement in outreach activities.
• A track record in attraction of research funding from competitive grant agencies and other sources including industry is an advantage.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strong links with industry, government and other external partners.
• Drive, energy and a vision for building and leading a world-class research group in data management systems.
• Demonstrated capacity to teach effectively across a range of subjects, including the capacity to supervise undergraduate and graduate students; and develop curriculum and learning resources.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other researchers, students and technical-administrative staff.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, development of collaborative relationships with industry and government and engagement in dissemination of research results to industry and government and to the wider public, and research leadership and management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

For Professors - DKK 621.105 including annual supplement (+ pension DKK 106.208)




Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
