The Department of Neuroscience, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen invites applications for a position as Professor in the area of Molecular Neurophysiology. The position is to be filled by September 1st 2019 or soon thereafter.

The Department of Neuroscience
The Department of Neuroscience employs academic and technical staff divided amongst 21 active research groups within the fields of cellular and molecular neuroscience, integrative neuroscience, motor control, addiction biology and neuropharmacology. The department performs basic and translational research with the goal to advance our understanding of brain functions as well as brain diseases and their treatment. The department hosts a PhD program in neuroscience and offers courses targeted to both pre- and postgraduate students in medicine (more than 500 students/year) and odontology-dentistry, as well as in the programs of human biology, human physiology, molecular biomedicine, and biomedical engineering.

The position
The appointee is expected to take a leading role in establishing a strong research program with focus on molecular mechanisms underlying ion-coupled transmembrane transport and water homeostasis in the mammalian brain. The appointee is expected to ensure external funding for the research program, to develop a network of national and international collaborations, and to promote the translational aspects of this field of study. The appointee will partake in teaching and supervision of students at the undergraduate, graduate, PhD, and post-doc levels, with prime course assignments in the field of molecular neurophysiology, and will participate in diverse management tasks at the departmental level.

The professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• Research, including publication/academic dissemination Research-based teaching, including associated examination
• Research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
• Obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• Academic assessments

The candidate
Applicants should have a scientific background within molecular neurophysiology in the area of transmembrane transport with focus on molecular mechanisms underlying ion-coupled transport and water homeostasis in the brain. A significant track-record of successful external research funding, as well as a significant publication record in high-level, international, peer-reviewed ISI journals are required. It is essential that the applicant have obtained formal qualifications for academic teaching and a strong teaching experience commensurate to the academic seniority level targeted in the application. This includes documented university level competencies in delivering high-quality undergraduate/graduate teaching and ability to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training program is required. Finally, candidates are expected to have managerial experience and qualifications.

Required qualifications.
The successful applicant has:

• A PhD degree or doctoral thesis (DMSc)
• Established an independent line of research
• Demonstrated a high record of independent scientific production at an internationally recognized level
• Demonstrated sustained attraction of competitive funding over a number of years
• Demonstrated ability to establish and manage a research group with a sustained production of master-students, Ph.D.-students and postdoctoral fellows.
• Obtained international experience and recognition.
• Demonstrated strong involvement in undergraduate and graduate teaching in the field of neuroscience
• Demonstrated experience with administrative work at departmental/faculty level.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

After the expiry of the deadline for applications, the authorized recruitment manager selects applicants for assessment on the advice of the Appointments Committee.
