Role Purpose

The EMEA Category Team is looking for a Surface Category Manager with category and product marketing experience to drive category planning and demand generation for our Surface business.

The right candidate will develop category strategies and programs, plans for key product launches, and drive product lifecycle management the Surface business.

The role will require partnership with Global & Subsidiary Category teams, as well as Finance and cross segment collaboration to ensure world class delivery of strategy and programs through key partners.  Based on in-depth target consumer understanding and validation, the candidate will develop and communicate local priorities and strategic programs.  This role will drive key insights for the region, develop pricing and program frameworks and well as manage the overall lifecycle and promotional plans for the category.

As part of the EMEA CDS Category Team tasked with driving significant growth, the Surface Category manager is responsible for setting the go to market strategy to create demand for our products and services through an unbroken demand chain and maximizing profit for the company. 

 

Responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

1. New product launches: Drive all interaction with the Surface organisations to ensure the successful positioning, messaging, and launch of new products in Geo.  This includes building product launch plans for the category, driving opportunity analysis across retailers and Geo, and working on correction of error plans where needed
2. Seasonal category planning:  Drive the Seasonal planning process (SPR) across EMEA, setting strategy, tactics and core priorities while working with the teams to build and present winning GTM plans for the region.
3. Top Accounts: Identifying and orchestrating growth plans through top accounts across EMEA to deliver on business priorities. Managing and prioritising regional funds as well as securing additional Agility funds through WW teams.
4. Full Funnel Marketing: Setting regional priorities, identifying and instigating opportunities and strategic partnerships while ensuring close collaboration across marketing teams (CMO, PR, Channel Marketing, MS Store) with clear ROI measurement.
5. Business Performance & Insights: Compile and present business performance on a bi-weekly basis. With an eye for detail and able to succinctly articulate a complex business, showcase best practice and influence key stakeholders for required support. 

1. Cross-group collaboration and incubation: Identify opportunities to collaborate and share best practice across the region, across segments (Consumer, MS Stores & Commercial) and across device categories in order to tell a One Microsoft story both internally and externally. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1)     Essential Experience

Strong individual with a talent for articulating a complex business story precisely, succinctly and truthfully to senior leaders. Relevant consumer marketing experience in the retail channel or entertainment/technology fields with clear ability to work effectively with retail partners.  Deep experience in working in highly matrixed teams. Broad skill set encompassing excellent marketing & relationship management capabilities with proven ability to collaborate well across functional groups and virtual teams to achieve specific business objectives. A marketer with strong business acumen to drive the commercial goals of the business and be able to stay focused even when dealing with ambiguity.  A self-starter who has well developed competencies in developing retail strategies that drive customers

 

2)    Technical/Functional Skills

Proven success in leading cross-subsidiary teams with strong influencing skills. Analysis and issue resolution, market and customer insight, thoroughness & precision. Skilled in using productivity software (excel, ppt, OneNote, Power BI) to tell a complex business and consumer story well. Strong understanding of overall marketing mix and relevant ROI metrics that demonstrate success.

 

3)    Personal Attributes/Interpersonal Skills

Strong virtual team leader who has the ability to deal with ambiguity, quickly earn the trust and respect of peers and rally different groups around a single business purpose. Clear strategic focus and high levels of creativity and tenacity, whilst ensuring performance excellence. Strong influencer skills, with a passion for consumer electronics and retail. Credible in building senior executive relationships. Able to thrive in virtual team environment.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications

°   Graduate degree required and relevant marketing qualification a plus

°   Experience in category management and/or product marketing

°   Proven knowledge of consumer selling channels

°   Financial and analytical capabilities is a strong benefit

°   Additional Language(s) an asset
