Senior Researcher/Researcher in Fatigue of Composite Materials

A Senior Researcher/Researcher position is available at DTU Wind Energy in the Section of Composites and Materials Mechanics. The Section consists of about 30 people and has modern laboratories for manufacturing and mechanical testing of composite materials. Research is conducted in research projects usually with external national or international collaboration. The research focusses on composites materials consisting of long, aligned fibres in a polymer matrix for use in wind turbine blades. The topic of the position is fatigue of composite materials and will focus on the development of better experimental mechanical testing methods, the development of better understanding and better theoretical models for description of fatigue damage evolution, from microscale (fibre/matrix level) to macroscale (laminate scale) with the aim for application in composite structures. Responsibilities and tasks The position will cover both experimental work in the laboratory and modelling work, with emphasis on the linking of models to experimental findings. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with other researchers and research technicians as well as with external partners. The position also involves collaboration with industry through accredited mechanical testing. The successful candidate is expected to work within the following topics: •analysis of fatigue test data •development of fatigues testing methods •stress analysis e.g. by the finite element method •development of research projects, writing project applications •project management •supervision of PhD-students •innovation (collaboration with industry) The position will involve collaboration with other sections in the Department of Wind Energy and can involve teaching of students. Qualifications •candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) •candidates for a Senior Researcher position must further have experience at least as Assistant Professor/Researcher/Postdoc or similar qualifications •publications in the field of fatigue of composite materials •documented experience in mechanical testing of composite materials •documented experience in finite element simulations •interpersonal skills/the ability to cooperate •fluency in communicating, reading and writing in English Assessment In the assessment of the candidates consideration will be given to: •scientific production and research potential at international level •innovative skills and the ability to generate new ideas •the ability to communicate at all levels such as the provision of scientific advice to public sector authorities •the ability to promote and utilize research results •an all-round experience basis, preferably including international experience •the ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation For the specific position consideration will also be given to: •experience and interest in international projects •industry collaboration We offer We offer an interesting and challenging job in an international environment focusing on education, research, public-sector consultancy and innovation, which contribute to enhancing the economy and improving social welfare.
