The National Institute of Aquatic Resources at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Aqua) invites applications for a position as senior scientist within the research field of fish population dynamics and stock assessment. The position is intended for a candidate with a track record of internationally acknowledged research in fish population dynamics and extensive experience in assessment of fish stocks and giving advice on fisheries management. The position is affiliated to the Section for Marine Living Resources at DTU Aqua in collaboration with the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, Department of Fish and Shellfish, Nuuk, Greenland. While the primary working location will be in Charlottenlund, north of Copenhagen, regular research stays in Greenland and participation in international expert groups is expected. The Section for Marine Living Resources has 20 employees in Copenhagen and Silkeborg and focuses on marine observation technology, molecular studies of population structure and distribution of organisms as well as bio-physical and statistical based modelling of population temporal and spatial dynamics and species interaction. Greenland Institute of Natural Resources (GINR) is the Greenland’s governmental centre for biological research and the primary objective is to provide the scientific basis for a sustainable use of the natural resources in Greenland, as well as safeguarding the environment and biological diversity. The fishing industry is Greenland’s principal exporting sector, and a primary task in the announced position is to contribute to advice on fisheries management offered by GINR to the Government. Responsibilities and tasks The primary responsibility of the successful applicant will be the quantitative analysis of marine fish stock and fisheries dynamics in the open North Atlantic and Greenlandic waters, including biology and ecology of the marine living resources and interactions with their abiotic and biotic environment. The successful candidate should actively contribute to enhancing the scientific understanding of the past, present and future dynamics of ecologically and economically important fish stocks with the goal to further our capacity to predict stock dynamics and manage these stocks in a sustainable manner. This includes advising on status, development and exploitation of marine living resources to national management authorities and within international advisory expert groups. An additional focus will be on implementation, application and coordination of research activities as far as possible utilising and improving existing monitoring activities as well as linking national and international research and monitoring efforts. The successful applicant will engage in our existing extensive international collaboration with other research institutions as well as the fishing industry. Important tasks include the development of new research and management projects, including project applications. Finally, the successful candidate will contribute to teaching in fish population ecology and stock assessments on Bachelor and Master level, and supervise PhD students and post docs. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent as well as experience and academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by successfully holding a position as Researcher or Postdoc for a period of no less than 3 years.
