DTU invites applications for a researcher position in the area of physical geodesy, with special focus on airborne and satellite gravity field determination, and emerging physical geodesy research topics such as drone-based gravity, cold atom interferometry and future gravity field satellite missions.

DTU Space (the National Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark) carries out a broad suite of geodetic activities relating to gravity field science, including research in space, airborne and in-situ gravity field measurements, gravity field modelling and geoid determination, and the use gravity field temporal changes for climate change applications and geodynamics. DTU Space maintains the gravity networks of Denmark and Greenland, computes national geoid models, and does cooperative international geodetic projects with a large number of institutions, including the European Space Agency.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position.

Responsibilities and tasks

The researcher will carry out basic and applied research in physical geodesy and gravimetry, in close cooperation with the other researchers at DTU Space, initially focusing on development of airborne/drone gravimetry and its applications, especially for geoid determination and related space-based geodetic infrastructure.

The researcher is also expected to participate in relevant national and international field projects, as well as contribute to science-based government advice on satellite and physical geodesy for the Danish Agency for Data Supply and Efficiency (SDFE), responsible for the geodetic infrastructure of Denmark and Greenland.

The candidate is expected to contribute to teaching and supervision of MSc. and PhD students, at a level corresponding to 6 ECTS points.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent), and in addition the candidate should have:

• Experience with gravimetry, GNSS and inertial navigation
• Experience from field campaigns
• Demonstrated geodetic research potential through scientific papers
• A strong work ethics and be a team player
• Be able to master Danish or Scandinavian languages (or learn it within few months), especially due to the government advice tasks (SDFE and other governmental cooperation projects)

The position will include significant travel activities to project meetings, conferences and field projects.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.

The position as a researcher is a permanent entry-level position. After a maximum of 4 years, a researcher can be promoted to a senior researcher position after assessment.
