The Section for Proton Conductors at DTU Energy is seeking a qualified and highly motivated candidate for a research scientist in development of alkaline electrolyzer materials and technologies. The section is involved in the development of both fuel cells and electrolyzers in the temperature range 80-400 °C. Within fuel cells based on phosphoric acid doped polybenzimidazole, we are among the leading research groups in the world. Alkaline electrolysis is a more recent field under expansion within the group. The research approach is experimental. The research and development activities take place in close collaboration with industry, e.g. Danish Power Systems, IRD Fuel Cells and SP Group. Furthermore, there is a comprehensive collaboration with other companies and universities all over the world. You will be joining a large group consisting of about 25 scientists, technicians and PhD students. You will be working in modern, well-equipped laboratories in a truly international setting where approximately half of the staff is from outside Denmark. Responsibilities and tasks The scientific work covers synthesis and characterization of materials for alkaline electrolyzer cells. The aim is to contribute to the development of energy efficient and cost efficient electrolyzers for the conversion of electrical energy into fuels. The primary focus will be on either membranes or catalysts depending on skills of the candidate. The work will involve the following: •Synthesis and characterization of polymer membrane materials with high ionic conductivity or of metal oxide based catalyst materials. In both cases stability in alkaline environment is paramount •Electrochemical characterization •Imaging by electron microscopy •In situ testing in electrochemical cells Other requirements for the position, e.g.: •Some teaching and a limited amount of other assignments •Collaboration with other research groups/departments at DTU Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Further qualifications: •Experimental experience in synthesis and characterization of either ion conducting membranes/diaphragms or electrocatalysts. •Knowledge of electrochemistry. •Record of fund raising (preparation of proposals) and research management. The post of research scientist is a permanent post as part of which the employee after a maximum of 4 years transfers to a position as senior research scientist provided that the employee is recommended for assessment and is deemed qualified.
