DTU Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position as Professor in Resource Recovery and Utilization in a Sustainable Built Environment. DTU Civil Engineering is a department with the overall mission of contributing to research, education, innovation and research based consulting within the following scientific areas: building design, structural engineering, construction materials, geotechnical engineering and geology, building energy, indoor climate and building physics and arctic technology. The professor will be attached to the Section of Arctic Engineering and Sustainable Solutions, which is one of the six sections comprising the Department, employing about 200 persons including a scientific staff of about 80. In the Section for Arctic Engineering and Sustainable Solutions the research is interdisciplinary and couples different engineering disciplines with natural and social sciences. In the section sustainable solutions are developed to different climates and population densities; from sparsely populated Arctic areas to densely populated areas with temperate climate. The knowledge obtained in these areas is used for optimization of technological solutions in support of the built environment and societal infrastructure to specific localities. The section hosts ARTEK – the Arctic Technology Centre with research focus on sustainable engineering in the Arctic. In addition the section hosts the leadership of the Department´s development area ZeroWaste Byg, focusing on redesigning construction materials using secondary resources in pursuit of a circular material economy. Responsibilities and tasks With the position of Professor in Resource Management in a Sustainable Built Environment, DTU wishes to strengthen and develop its expertise in the area of resource recovery and utilization in the built environment with special emphasis on sustainability and the entire life cycle of construction materials from waste or raw material to waste or re-used and substituted construction material. The new professor is expected to lead and further develop the research group focused on developing technologies for urban mining and to play a leading role in the Department’s cross disciplinary research and innovation effort in redesigning of construction materials towards a zero waste society – ‘ZeroWaste Byg’. The new professor is further expected to oversee the further development of the teaching curriculum related to the area – at all levels. The position includes managerial and administrative duties for the department. In addition the responsibilities include: •Research •Research-based teaching •Academic leadership – in order to strengthen and develop the field •External collaboration •Other responsibilities: o Innovation and/or public-sector consultancy o Knowledge sharing with the public o Educational guidance and supervision of PhDs, assistant professors and researchers o Academic assessment work DTU Civil Engineering is strongly engaged in collaboration across departments at DTU – in DTU initiatives such as Center for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE), Polar-DTU and Global Decision Support Initiative (GDSI) and though individual research projects – and teaching activities. The successful candidate is expected to take a lead position in teaching at the bachelor-, master- and PhD levels. Please note that the teaching at bachelor level is required to be in Danish and teaching at master level in English. International candidates are required to take courses in Danish and teach in Danish after a period of 2 to 3 years.
