Postdoc in SCR Performance Measurements in Marine Diesel Engines

The Department of Mechanical Engineering (MEK) at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has an open Post Doc. position in the field of performance measurement of SCR catalyst on Marine diesel engines. The Post Doc. will be working in a work package of “Hercules 2 - Fuel Flexible, Near-Zero Emissions, Adaptive Performance Marine Engine”, a project within the EU HORIZON 2020 Transport Programme together with 32 international partners. Responsibilities and tasks The candidate will be responsible for the design and development of an exhaust probing system to measure SCR performance in terms of NH3 and NOx concentrations locally on the inlet and outlet of an SCR catalyst. The probe traversing setup should be designed specifically for the use in exhaust systems of large marine diesel engines with exhaust gas at high pressure and temperature. The probing system should be mobile and has to be tested on full size SCR systems at engine builders mainly located in Asia. Development of measurement and data processing procedures for evaluating the SCR performance is a part of the task as well. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent. Further qualifications: •Understanding of the thermodynamic fundamentals of combustion engines and formation of exhaust emissions as well as exhaust after treatment methods. •Experience with design, construction and development of experimental equipment, particularly in relation to measurement of exhaust emissions. This implies experience with general machine elements, CAD tools, LabView, electronic data acquisition and control of temperature and flow. •Experience with a variety of emission analyzers, their calibration and maintenance in compliance with emission standards. •Experience with processing of steady as well as transient experimental data, building of performance maps using interpolation techniques and assessment of measurement uncertainty by means of statistics. This implies experience with Matlab. •Traveling experience and collaboration experience with people in Asia is an advantage. •Experience with supervision of experimental project students is an advantage.
