DTU Fotonik works with all areas of photonic engineering, including a strong focus on optical communications. Responsibilities and tasks We are seeking a Postdoc focusing on optical signal processing, particularly on regenerative transmission and experimental implementation of the so-called ”nonlinear transmission channel”. This work will involve detailed studies of optical nonlinearities both in the context of signal impairments and as a tool for performing regeneration and other optical signal processing. The position will focus on developing both numerical models and experimental frameworks for characterising optical signal processing and regeneration for optical data transmission. The postdoc is expected to derive novel signal processing schemes for signal regeneration and investigate the feasibility and potential of implementing transmission based on a nonlinear transmission channel. This work will involve both theoretical and experimental studies. The postdoc should address fundamental limitations of optical regeneration and requirements to nonlinear optical media used for making such systems. Experimental demonstrations of regenerated or regenerative optical transmission are key goals in this work. The postdoc project will be part of the newly started fundamental research center SPOC (Silicon Photonics for Optical Communications) and will work in close collaboration with many other activities within the center. Apart from the research outlined above, the postdoc position will involve a limited amount of teaching mainly in the form of supervising student projects. Qualifications Candidates should have a PhD degree or equivalent within optical signal processing. A strong background in optical communication and optical signal processing is required. Particularly, experience with nonlinear parametric amplifiers and phase sensitive signal processing for optical regeneration is important. Experience with nonlinear parametric signal processing in various material platforms including crystalline- and amorphous silicon as well as highly nonlinear fiber and periodically polled lithium-niobate is also of high importance.
