PhD Scholarship in Intestinal Microbiology and Toxic Chemicals

The National Food Institute (DTU Food) offers a PhD position related to studies of the effect of the intestinal microbiota on uptake and metabolism of potentially harmful chemicals. 
You will be part of the Research group for Gut, Microbes, and Health at DTU Food. We offer an ambitious, dynamic and sociable research environment with lots of exiting challenges and opportunities. The PhD position is affiliated to the ‘Microbelix’ project supported by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and will involve interaction with both microbiologists, toxicologists and chemists. 

The overall aim of Microbelix is to obtain a better understanding of the effect of gut microbial composition and activity on the uptake and metabolism of potentially harmful chemicals present in food products.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a master's degree in life science, engineering or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to the master's degree in engineering.

Candidates are expected to have interest and knowledge within intestinal microbiology and ecology. You need to be ambitious, highly motivated, and capable of working independently, and to have good skills within written and spoken English.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience within animal models, microbial cultivation studies, sequence-based analysis of bacterial communities and/or characterization of chemical compounds e.g. by LC-MS/MS.

Approval and Enrolment 
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed with the relevant union.
