About this Job Opportunity

We are hiring degreed Meteorologists to join the exciting world of marine weather risk communication. This is an interdisciplinary endeavor, which involves facilitating discussion between several parties to decide how best to direct vessels at sea in terms of safety and cost efficiency.  This is a highly demanding, fast-paced, and rewarding job for those who enjoy to be challenged. You will learn about many disciplines not related to basic forecasting. Flexibility, positivity, and innovative thinking will be appreciated and rewarded.

This position is NOT a good fit for those who wish to practice strictly weather analysis and forecasting, or maintain a rigid job specification.

The successful candidate will initially spend time in our global headquarters in Japan to experience our company culture and begin training. They will move to our United States facility for technical training, then returning to Denmark to undertake regular operations.   

This position is a one-year full time contract position with possibility for renewal / permanent position after the first year. We expect our candidate to start in Mid-February-March 2019, however our start date is flexible based on the successful candidates availability.  

 

Duties:

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and is a team player with excellent oral/written communication skills in English. They will represent Weathernews in a variety of forums and interact daily with our client base in Europe. Daily duties include, but are not limited to:

• Risk assessment of voyage plans basis latest weather information
• Risk communication to customers concerning vessel’s performance and/or safety issues
• Updating voyage plans based on changes to voyage instruction and/or weather forecast
• Comparing reported weather conditions with model information and other data sources
• Evaluating completed voyages to confirm the viability of our service to our customer base
• Managing accounts of specific customers; which includes regular meetings to show evidence of the quality of our service and to promote opportunities for growth within our service structure
• Coordinating customer issues within WNI’s Global Operational structure

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Meteorology or equivalent discipline
• Highly motivated and energetic with a positive mindset, especially under pressure
• Able to work in a high stress environment with strict daily deadlines which involve the safety of human lives at sea
• Impeccable English skills, both verbal and written
• Focus on customer satisfaction while considering safety at all times
• Able to go international business trips (sometimes with short notice)
• Knowledge of the one or more of the following is preferred, but not required: Oceanography, Geography, Naval Architecture, Sea Navigation, Admiralty Law, Chartering and Charter Parties, freight logistics.
