CMC Development

As part of Novo Nordisk’s R&D organisation, Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control (CMC) Development makes a real difference for patients with chronic diseases across the world. We develop, manufacture, and distribute drug candidates for non-clinical and clinical trials with the help from approximately 1400 CMC employees. We develop and formulate all new peptide and protein processes, coming out of our research unit and ensure the best-in-class treatments for patients. CMC Development is organised in six areas of expertise supporting the entire drug development pipeline. The present position is situated in the CMC API Development area.

 

CMC API Development

CMC API Development is responsible for developing, upscaling, and documenting fermentation, purification, and chemical processes for API production in order to bring the growing pipeline of new drug candidates into clinical trials.

 

The position

The position is a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship in process engineering within CMC API Development.

As part of Novo Nordisk’s continued commitment to the reduction of our production costs and improvement of our processes, we are seeking a post-doctoral fellow for the development of a novel platform for spray drying-based isolation of reactive chemical compounds.

The project aim is to develop new and generally applicable methods independent of quantity for isolation of reactive compounds to extend their shelf life and handling handling further down in our manufacturing process.

The fellow will utilise knowledge within optimization of spray drying conditions, co-formulation possibilities, analytical understanding of critical powder characteristics etc. to develop a next generation isolation platform.

The practical work will involve hands-on spray drying in both laboratory and pilot size equipment.

The fellow will work in close collaboration with the chemical development, analytical, and formulation departments including the pilot plants.

Qualifications

You hold a degree in engineering or an equivalent academic degree, and a PhD in a relevant area, and preferably have at least one year of post-doctoral or industrial experience within the area of spray drying and ideally also in agglomeration/granulation processes. The candidate is expected to have significant international experience. Moreover, a strong background in formulation, physiochemical properties of powders, and analytical aspects of powder characterisation is an advantage.

The fellowship includes mainly laboratory work followed by scale up development to pilot size equipment. Hands-on experience with diverse types of equipment (Buchi laboratory scale spray dryers, MobilMinor, ProCell etc.) is expected.

You have excellent written and oral English communication skills and a strong track record of publications within the field of spray drying. For non-native English speakers you will ideally be able to provide documentation for your English proficiency (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or similar).

The position requires the ability to define and perform tasks independently with a strong commitment to deliver high quality data and documentation. At the same time, you are required to have an innovative and positive mind-set and thrive in a dynamic research environment where daily collaboration with multiple stakeholders is essential.
