Project title: UV light source for next generation immunoassay analyzer The Technical University of Denmark has an open Industrial PhD position for a project in solid state ultraviolet light sources intended for Radiometers next generation immunoassay analyzer. Different novel UV light sources relevant for time-resolved fluoremetry will be developed or tested, and subsequently implemented in the next generation immunoassay analyzer. The right candidate will have his/her permanent work place at the company Radiometer but with access to the university as well. Project description In this project, novel state-of-the 340 nm LEDs and solid-state lasers will investigated for use as excitation sources in a time-resolved fluorescence measuring system and bench marked against the commonly used light source – a filtered Xenon flash lamp. The solid light source will be implemented in a new generation immunoassay analyzing system developed in this project. 340 nm LEDs are already available and a novel 340 nm diode-pumped Q-switching laser will be developed during the project. The light sources will be evaluated with respect to pulse energy and shape, spectral distribution, life-time and the overall impact on size, cost and measuring performance of the optical system. Key activities 1.Literature study on solid state UV light sources. 2.Characterization of a 340 nm LED light source. 3.Development of a 340 nm passively Q-switched laser. 4.Design of a LED/Q-switched laser based system for time resolved fluorescence measurement of immunoassays with reuse of components from existing Radiometer measuring system when relevant. 5.Implementation in a next generation immunoassay analyzer system. During the project the candidate is expected to publish and present results in English. A stay abroad at a relevant university or company is expected.
