About this job The senior system engineer working on front- and back-end systems will be involved in all aspects of issuu's infrastructure and operations. Our services are built on Amazon's scalable infrastructure (EC2, S3, etc.). You will be working on system design and implementation for our data-heavy platforms, systems and web applications, as well as internal systems to manage our services. Most of the work is done back-end side, but you will also need to be comfortable with creating javascript-based front-end code that can run in production. The daily focus is on productivity and delivering results, while ensuring customer satisfaction, performance and reliability of our platform.The back-end infrastructure is developed in a range of programming languages depending on the task at hand. We mainly use Python, but also have components written in pure C and interface with systems written in OCaml, Erlang and Java. The ideal candidate will be strong in imperative and object-oriented programming languages, as well as both statically typed and dynamic functional-programming languages.We seek an individual with a deep CS background and experience that includes development of high-availability online services and with a passion for solving complex and interesting problems. Our daily work involves solving problems from just about every area of computer science, including search, information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, big data and on and on.
