Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark invites applications for a position of Assistant/Associate Professor in Design Engineering and Innovation Management. The professor will be attached to the section of Engineering Design and Product Development, which has a legacy of seminal research and developments in the area of Design Methodology. The current focus of the section is over four principle areas, those being Robust Design; Product/Service-Systems; Product Platforms & Architectures; and Conceptualization. It is desirable that this professor position will strengthen the rapidly expanding area of robust design, with a focus on reliability and quality engineering. The section is very international, with researchers of many nationalities, currently consisting of 7 faculty members and 3 Post Docs/Researchers and 11 PhD Students. Research stemming from this section has included: The Theory of Technical Systems, Integrated Product Development and numerous advances in Design for X areas. The section also has a history of close industry engagement, conducting research that is both applicable to industry and often created in collaboration with industry partners. Responsibililties and tasks The candidate is expected; above all else, to be a strong researcher showing evidence and potential to both raise funding and publish in areas relevant to Engineering Design. The candidate should have a good vision for his/her topic and be able to communicate and sell it with clarity to both a research and industry audience. Such a candidate should be able to both manage and grow a research group as PhD supervision and guidance will by a key task for this role. As well as researching, the role also has teaching obligations to both the Design & Innovation and Engineering Design & Applied Mechanics study lines. It will also be required to supervise several masters/bachelor projects each year in the candidate’s area of research expertise. Besides the central research and teaching tasks, DTU encourages faculty to engage in innovation (e.g., industrial collaborations for developing new products and patenting of inventions) and/or research-based public sector consultancy. Dissemination of research results to the broader public is very welcomed. A large part of the research at DTU Mechanical Engineering is externally funded. Responsibilities as project manager as well as active participation in fund-raising are expected. Furthermore, we expect the successful candidate to contribute to a continuous expansion of national and international networking activities. The new associate/assistant professor is expected to cooperate with colleagues in other departments of DTU, e.g. at DTU Compute and DTU Management Engineering. Qualifications Candidates for an •Assistant Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) •Associate Professorship must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an Assistant Professorship and should document didactic/pedagogic training. Further qualifications: •The ability to attract funding •Strong technical capabilities are required, particularly in the area of mechanical design.
