The University seeks to appoint a tenure track assistant professor or associate professor to the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology to contribute to research within the field of drug safety, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology from 1 August 2019 or as soon as possible thereafter. We are looking for a highly motivated, dynamic, flexible, and committed person.

Our research
Either position within the Pharmacovigilance Research Group is headed by Professor Morten Andersen. We aim to develop innovative methods and tools that will shape the future surveillance of medicines’ safety as well as generating new evidence contributing to improve the evaluation of benefits/risks of medicines.

We aspire to strengthen the field of pharmacovigilance as an academic and scientific discipline and to create a truly interdisciplinary research field exploiting adjacent disciplines like pharmacy, regulatory science, and pharmacometrics, as well as benefiting from the tremendous resource of big health care data from the Danish and Nordic National Registers.

Your job
You will conduct independent research and teach within the focus areas: Drug safety, pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology. You will have the opportunity to contribute actively to the expansion and growth of the Pharmacovigilance Research Group.

Your research will include backtranslational aspects relating medicine-associated risks to the molecular structure, targets, and mechanisms and genetic factors. With this knowledge, our ambition is to improve drug use and prevent drug-related problems for the benefit of public health. The position will involve interdisciplinary collaborations within the university and with (inter)national scientific groups, regulatory agencies, as well as other public and private partners.

You will also participate in the development of the department’s teaching programme at graduate and postgraduate levels, focussing on pharmacovigilance and drug regulatory related topics in the pharmaceutical educational programs.

As tenure track assistant professor, your responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• research, including publication/academic dissemination
• attracting external funding
• research-based teaching, including development of teaching, courses and course administration
• sharing knowledge with the rest of society
• participation in formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors

Your performance as tenure track assistant or associate professor will be evaluated through annual evaluations. Furthermore, you will be evaluated in a mid-track appraisal.

As associate professor, your responsibilities will primarily consist of:

• research, including publication/academic dissemination
• attracting external funding
• research-based teaching, including development of teaching, courses and course administration as well as associated examination
• research leadership, including guidance and supervision of researchers
• obligation to share knowledge with the rest of society, including participation in public debate
• academic assessments

Required qualifications

For the tenure track assistant professor position, you should be able to document:

• a PhD degree or similar qualifications within medical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, public health, biostatistics or other relevant research field
• research experience within drug safety, pharmacovigilance and/or pharmacoepidemiology 

• an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or internationally recognized, great potential to make a future impact.

For the associate professor position, you should be able to document:

• research qualifications achievable in a position as assistant professor within drug safety, pharmacovigilance and/or pharmacoepidemiology
• teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies
• research-based teaching

Desirable experience and skills (for either position)

• Experience with using big health data such as healthcare registers, electronic health records, clinical trial databases and/or spontaneous reporting systems.
• Qualifications within one or more of the areas: epidemiological study design and analysis, signal detection or data mining
• Qualifications within pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacy, data management, statistical programming, data science, biostatistics or bioinformatics will also be considered.
• Good interpersonal skills and an enterprising, collaborative and innovative mindset

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations. The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).
