The University of Copenhagen seeks to appoint a tenure track assistant professor (junior group leader) to the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine to commence as soon as possible.

Job abstractJV_description
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (ICMM) has 250 members and offers a dynamic and international scientific environment encompassing five research programs and four high profile Research Centers. ICMM aims at producing research with a high international impact focusing on the functional cell, its genetic components and molecular mechanisms in a biomedical context. ICMM offers modern laboratory facilities and administrative support. Core facilities as well as other experimental platforms of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences are also available for the applicant. It would be advantageous for the applicant to be able to align his/her research with one of ICMM’s main research themes.

ICMM is also responsible for a number of undergraduate and graduate teaching programs at the University of Copenhagen and the scientists at ICMM are responsible for conducting high-quality research-based teaching.

The responsibilities of the tenure track assistant professor will primarily consist of:

• research, including publication/academic dissemination duties.
• research-based teaching.
• sharing knowledge with society.
• participation in a formal pedagogical training program for assistant professors.
• securing external research funding.

The tenure track assistant professor’s performance will be monitored through annual reviews; a mid-career appraisal by an external committee; and a final assessment.
After no more than six years of employment and conditional upon a positive final appraisal, the tenure track assistant professor will be employed as tenured associate professor. Required qualifications

• a PhD degree or similar qualifications in relation to the above subject area.
• a demonstration of research excellence.
• a track record of external research funding is considered an advantage, but not a prerequisite for the position.
• teaching qualifications and pedagogical competencies are considered an advantage, but not a prerequisite for the position.
• an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and/or have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact.
• good interpersonal skills.

Terms of employment
Salary and other terms and conditions of appointment are set in accordance with the Agreement Between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant professional organisations.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities (2013).
